Next-Gen Desktop App with Local + Cloud — Looking for Feedback

A proof-of-concept for a unified WiseMapping desktop app that combines offline-first local files with cloud sync. We want to hear if this is worth pursuing.

We've been exploring what a single, modern WiseMapping client could look like — and we've built a proof of concept. Despite the repository name, "wisemapping-mobile" is really a Tauri-based desktop app first (macOS, Windows, Linux), with iOS and Android targets sharing the same codebase. The novelty is the storage model: every map is either Cloud (synced through your wisemapping.com account) or Local (a plain .wxml file under ~/Documents/WiseMapping/, fully offline). Drag a card from one side of the sidebar to the other and the map is moved or copied accordingly. The build picks up exactly where wisemapping-desktop left off (offline) and where the web app stops (cloud), unifying both. Before we commit to maintaining yet another client, we want to hear from the community: would you use this? Is local + cloud in one app the right shape, or should the two stay separate? Open an issue or discussion on GitHub and let us know.

150,000+ Docker Hub Pulls: Community Milestone

WiseMapping has crossed 150,000 Docker Hub pulls, a milestone that reflects the growing adoption of self-hosted, privacy-first mind mapping.

As of April 2026, the official WiseMapping Docker image (wisemapping/wisemapping on Docker Hub) has crossed 150,000 cumulative pulls. The open-source project, first released in 2007, continues to grow its self-hosted community: every pull is a team, company, or individual who chose to run WiseMapping on their own infrastructure rather than rely on a third-party service. Alongside the Docker milestone, the GitHub repositories have reached 250+ stars and 70+ forks across the server, frontend, and desktop codebases. Thank you to everyone who deploys, contributes, files issues, and spreads the word — this project is community-driven and these numbers are yours.

Security Hardening & Icon Picker Improvements

OAuth token encryption, PII-free server logs, secure reset-password flow, icon picker search, AI-themed icons, and remembered canvas position.

The upcoming release brings significant security and usability improvements across the stack. On the backend, OAuth tokens are now encrypted to prevent token leakage and personally identifiable information — email addresses and names — has been stripped from all server logs and metrics. The reset-password flow has been replaced with a secure link-based mechanism using time-limited signed tokens; clicking the link opens a dedicated reset form, eliminating replay and enumeration attacks. On the frontend, the icon picker gains full-text search and a "Frequently Used" section for faster discovery, a new set of AI-themed icons has been added to the icon panel, and the editor now remembers your last scroll and zoom position between sessions.

WiseMapping 6.0.7: Production Hardening & GDPR Compliance

Critical JWT security fix, GDPR-compliant consent management, automated CI/CD release tagging, and Vite 8 upgrade.

Version 6.0.7 addresses a critical security vulnerability: the default JWT signing secret was committed to the public repository, allowing anyone to forge valid tokens for any user. The app now detects the default secret at startup and requires operators to provide their own via APP_JWT_SECRET. The Spring Security filter chain has been split into a stateless JWT chain for /api/** and a stateful chain for web and OAuth2 endpoints, enabling independent authentication policies per surface. On the compliance front, direct AdSense script injection has been replaced with Google Funding Choices CMP for GDPR-compliant consent handling. The frontend build pipeline upgrades to Vite 8 with native HTML transforms, Storybook 10.3, and the latest MUI components. The CI/CD pipeline now automatically creates and pushes git tags on every published Docker image, ensuring every release is traceable to an exact source snapshot.
